Reviews on Above

From www.beyondwebzine.com
When a band such as this one pulls you the trick of releasing a two-track only demo, you really go into a fit. Especially when you’re a Paradise Lost fan like myself... Anyway, maybe there’ll be other nice surprises later on? The problem is that we’re getting impatient. After all, the band’s been there for over eight years and they didn’t succeed to get signed yet. This is practically unbelievable. But true. During all that time, there have been tons of shitty bands getting on labels and selling in stores. I’ve stopped trying to figure out labels for some time already but at times I really feel as if I’m living on Mars. In Grey is a band that rocks. Their songs are not among the most original material in modern Gothic Metal but at least their compositions are efficient. And not just a little bit!
From Chronicles of Chaos #56
This is the third demo CD In Grey have sent me [CoC #42, #52], and after the disappointing second one they now seem to be firmly back on track. A measly 7+ minutes are not a lot to judge a band by, but they do at least provide a reasonably strong indication that In Grey are headed somewhere more interesting than last time. "Above" is distinctly goth metal, and not bad at that, with some improvements in the clean vocal area as well. "I Amaze" is a more atmospheric song and more to my liking. Both tracks, but especially the latter, bear slight resemblance to some aspects of Katatonia's recent work as well. Not much else to write about such a short demo, except that the musicianship and production cannot be faulted, especially considering this is a demo. I shall be significantly more interested in hearing a more substantial disc from In Grey now -- and considering they have been around since 1992(!), perhaps it is about time they get their opportunity. 4/5 – Pedro Azevedo

Reviews on Mask

From Amputation Mag #7
With roots in Goth metal, In Grey have taken their music a step further and created pretty easy-listening songs which easily sticks on ones mind. Clean vocals and talking is mixed with deep screams in a natural way and follows the changes in the music, which is closer to regular rock than metal. The three songs you'll find on Mask are probably nothing for a die-hard death metal fan, although ones who doesn't mind softer music will enjoy this one.

From Chrome Magazine #6
I was somewhat surprised when In Greys demo arrived in my mail. Atmospheric gothic metal isn't what we usually include in this mag. The surprise, however, gets replaced with joy when the catchy song Once Again can be heard through my speakers. The closest contact I've had with this kind of music is Paradise Lost, but I stopped listening to them when they turned into a synth act. The other two songs aren't as catchy as Once Again, they rely more on heaviness. A powerful sound and a professional recording make this demo a pleasure to listen at. If there is something I should complain at it's going to have to be the singers a bit Swedish pronunciation, but that shouldn't be to hard to fix. Hmm, this makes me want to put on some Paradise Lost. Forget that, I'll listen to Mask once again instead.
